About Age Geek

Age Geek is a free birthday calculator with a twist. Instead of only telling you how old you are, it shows you what remarkable people were doing at exactly the same age. Pick the month, day and year you were born, press GO, and you get your precise age in years, months and days, plus a running total of the days, weeks and hours you have been alive. Underneath, a handful of milestone cards appear: real moments from the lives of scientists, athletes, artists, founders, musicians and writers who happened to be the age you are right now.

How it works

There are three dropdowns and one button, and nothing else to learn. Choose your birth month, then your day, then your year. The day and year lists are filled in for you, all the way back to 1900, so there is no typing and no date format to get wrong. Press GO and the result card appears immediately. If a date does not exist, such as the 30th of February, or if it sits in the future, you will see a friendly note instead of a result. To start over, use Try another birthday, which clears the form and returns you to the top. If you just want to browse, the surprise me link in the footer drops in a random birthday and runs it for you.

What the milestones cover

The milestone library spans ages seven to sixty-five and deliberately mixes the famously early with the famously late. You will meet child prodigies and teenage record breakers, twenty-somethings who published theories or founded companies from a bedroom, and people who did not begin the work they are remembered for until their forties, fifties or sixties. If nothing in the library matches your exact age, Age Geek falls back to the nearest ages instead, so there is always something to read on your birthday. Consider it a gentle reminder that there is no single timetable for a good life.

Fun facts about your number

Your birthday stays with you

Nothing you enter is stored. The date you choose never leaves your browser: the entire calculation runs in JavaScript on your own device. There is no account, no sign-up, no database and no server that ever sees your birthday. Close the tab and the number is gone. See the Privacy Policy for the full detail.

Who is it for

Age Geek was built to be quick and cheerful rather than clinical. It works nicely for a birthday message, for settling an argument about exactly how old someone is today, for a school project on famous lives, or simply for a small dose of perspective on an ordinary afternoon. It runs entirely in the browser on a phone, tablet or desktop, needs no install and no permission, and the share buttons let you send your result to a friend in one tap.

A note on the numbers

Ages are calculated from midnight on your birth date to today in your device's own time zone, using calendar months rather than an average of thirty days, which is the way people actually count birthdays. The milestone ages are drawn from widely reported public biographies and are rounded to the age the person had reached when the moment happened. They are meant as inspiration and light trivia rather than a citation, so if a particular date matters to you it is always worth checking a proper source.
